Use Fabric Scraps and Make Something Fun - Sew Much

Use Fabric Scraps and Make Something Fun

There are always bits left over after any sewing project and I just can't throw them out! If you're like me you have stashes of scraps just waiting to become something.

I grabbed a bunch of cute fun prints from one box and decided to do a little improvisational piecing to create a 12" block.

Here are the steps I took to create this sweet design.

I started with this pile of scraps.

Pile of fabric scraps

After pressing the pieces I began by stitching the little strips together in a very random way alternating widths and colors.

Strips of fabric sewn together
I then cut the wedge shapes using a template and rotary cutter.
Fabric pieces cut with wedge shape template and rotary cutterCut additional wedges from white scraps and a corner piece. I continued attaching wedges until it was larger than 12 1/2".  I attached the corner on the curve which was a bit tricky. Next time I will just applique to a square to make it a bit easier.
Making of a quilt block
I then freehand cut a quarter circle from the black/white scrap and a smaller one from a pink print. Using a scrap of batting larger then 12 1/2” I appliquéd the quarter circles and quilted.
Quilt blockTrimmed to 12 1/2”  and now I’ve got a cute little block to use for a pillow or wall decor.
This was a really fun to make and I look forward to making more scrappy projects.
I encourage you to take some scraps and have fun!!

I could also see this as sides for a tote bag, or why not blocks for a quilt? Sew cute!
